The Great Depression of the 1930's-
1) The Topic that i chose to research is the Great Depression of the 1930's. I chose this topic because last semester in my history class we discussed it but we never really got into details about it. I know that this is a contraversial subject, like about how it started and how it ended so i thought it would be very interesting.
2) What i know about the Great Depression so far is that one of the reasons this happened was because of the Stock Market Crash in 1929. The Stock Market lost about 40 billion dollars. Also 9,000 banks had to close down due to foreclosure. The gave too many people loans. The last thing i know about this topic is that because people were loosing their jobs they stopped buying goods which then went as a slippery slope and then the farmers started loosing money and they lost 1/3 of their farm lands.
3) What i would like to learn about the Great Depression is what other issues caused the whole down fall. There are many different opinions on how it started so i would like to research everybodys opinions and see how they differ. I would like to also find out why so many banks had to close and why they didnt just stop giving so much loans out. Also i want to get the history on why the huge Stock Market crashed. I want to look at all the myths about the Depression.

Research Assignment #1
Although my future plans are to go into dental hygiene, i also have interests mostly in science and political issues.
Like what exactly caused the great depression? And is the U.S going to fall back into another depression like we had in the 1930's. Last semester i was in an American history class and here are some things that i learned.
One of the most greatly talked about causes for the depression was the stock market crash if 1929. Stockbrokers lost about 40 billion dollars and america couldnt get out of the money issues. Also there were alot of bank failures althroughout the 1930's. 9,000 banks closed down because they were giving out too many loans to people who couldnt pay them back.
People were worrying about money so much that they stopped buying goods and that lowered the economy even more. People would stop buying as much food which destroyed the farmers, their farmed declined 60% and they lost 1/3 of their land.

Many people are saying that our economy now is making some of the same mistakes that the economy did in the 1930's. Banks are closing down and the stockmarket isnt doing as greatly as it used to. Historians are worried that we are going to get ourselves into another great depression, we need to learn from the mistakes of the great depression and not do the same thing.
