RJA #15b: Reflection on What You Learned–
I think what i learned most in this class is just basically how to organize my papers better. I liked having blogger because we were able to put our sources on here and be able to find them. Also Starting to write our intodoctions to the papers instead of just having to start from no where. I also learned more about APA and MLA style in papers. I didnt know that citations should be in a specific format. This is what I think that i will be using in the future and in future writtings.

RJA #13a: Field Research Report–
On October 12th 2009 I interviewed Penn Pfiffner. We was able to share with me, what books would help me with my research and told me some key words that I would need, that would also help.
He said that one of the biggest causes that caused the stock market crash was the Central Bank that allowed money to grow rapidly, cheating malinvestments that was thought to be future income. Also because they didnt have the Federal Reserve Board set up, meaning that there was no secirity net that would have protected this crash.

RJA #12b: Presentation Plan–
My presentation plan, is to first start off with giving some background information on the Stock Market Crash of 1929. I just want the class to have a quick introduction of what it was, if they dont know yet. Next in my presentation I am going to point out the main causes of what I think the caused of the Crash were and then I will point out the possible objection that I am then going to refute.
Lastly I included a picture and a graph of what the stock priced looked like from the roaring 20's up until when the stocks finally recovered in 1954.

RJA #11a: Introduction-
Many people have heard the famous saying that all good things must come to an end, and this wasnt an exception for the roaring 20's. This ending came unexpectedly when the The Stock Market Crash, also known as the Great Crash occured. When people hear this word, they think of one of the greatest causes of the Great Depression. Many people lost alot of their money and even lost their jobs. It was a terrible tragedy in the history of the United States and people hope that there will never be a Great Crash like this again.
People believe that the stock market crash of 1929 was caused by the stocks being over priced, also that there was very little margin relative to the value of the market and that there were massive frauds and illegal activity in the stocks. However, this is only the thin layer of what really caused the great crash of 1929.

RJA #10b: Argument-
Possible Objections: The Stocks were overpriced and that was the cause of the crash.Refutation: Studies have shown that using standard measures of stock value, such as Price to Earning ratios and Price to Dividend ratios, argue that the share prices were not too high for the markets.
Possible Objections: Fraud and illegal activity in the market was the reason the crash happened.
Refutation: Some evidence revealed that there was very little actual insider trading or illegal manipulation, thus this could not be the only reason why the crash happened.
RJA #10a: Thesis Statement–
Question:
What are the causes of the 1929 stock market crash?
Claim:
Many tend to believe that the crash only happened because of the illegal acitivty and fraud in the market and that the stocks were too overpriced, this however is only the beginning of the reasons for the crash.

RJA #9: Evaluation of Sources-
Books:

Title: The causes of the 1929 stock market crash
Sub Title: a speculative orgy or a new era?
Author: Harold Bierman
Publisher: Westport, Conn. : Greenwood Press
Copyright: 1998
Series: Contributions in economics and economic history,; Number: no. 195; ISSN: 0084-9235
Evaluation: I found this book on the Auraria Library website. I was happy when i found it because it fit exactly what i was looking for, the causes. It is a newer book, or atleast is no older than about 10 years old so i liked that it was fairly recent. Im excited to get this book and see what his opinions are on the causes of the crash and see if they differ from my own.
2) Title: Rainbow’s End: The Crash of 1929
Author: Maury Klein
Print Length: 368 pages

Evaluation: I really found this periodical article very interesting. I looked to see where the author, Maury Klein got his information from and I was plesently suprised that the info was from Harvard. It is sometimes very difficult to find information, and not know if it is correct or not. So I was happy to find this article.

Evaluation: I found this periodical article, actually on the SkyLine website for the Auraria Library. She gives a lot of information on the causes of the crash. She seems to really know about the crash. She also talks about the effects but i will be only pretty much reading about the causes. Again, it is just nice to read other peoples opinions on the crash because this is greatly debated and everyone sees the causes differently.
Websites:
1)http://www.amatecon.com/gd/gdcandc.html
Evaluation: This is one of my favorite websites that I found for the Stock Market Crash. In this website, they give me about 7 causes of the crash. I liked this because other sites i would find, would really only provide me aboue 2 or 3 causes so it was nice to have more opinions.
2) http://www.money-zine.com/Investing/Stocks/Stock-Market-Crash-of-1929/
Evaluation: This site, I also saw very informative. They show what happened on each of the days of the crash, like black monday and black tuesday. Then it also goes into detail about why this crash happened.

I was just looking at what other things that he has been known for and I happened to stumble on this. The Book was called Rainbows End and its also about the Stock Market Crash. Since the article I found, seems to be very informative, Im sure that this book will also help a lot in my research.

INTERNET RESEARCH PROJECT
Deepdyve.com
This is an invisible search engine website. I really liked this site because it was a really specific search option. When you entered in what you were looking for, you could refine your search by clicking the options and checking the box of where you would like to search. Like example= i would look in buisiness and finance, web and other.
If that doesnt specify your search, you can do an advanced filter. You can type in what words you want in the search and what words you dont want in it. You can also type in the author and a date. It was a really good search engine site i i will definately be using this site more often in my search for my paper.

RJA #7c: Field Research Plan–
For my Field Research i plan on interviewing somebody and asking them questions about the Stock Market Crash. Im not still quite sure who i will be interviewing so when i find out, then i will be able to create questions.
Secondly for my Field Research i plan on going to the History Museum, in Denver. I will look for anything they have on the Stock Market Crash on 1929. I plan on doing all of this within the next couple of weeks.
Lastly i would like to set up a survey or poll and ask random people, "what do you think was the biggest cause to make the Stock Market Crash?" and see what other people's opinions on the matter are.

The Internet search engines i mostly used in my research was google and sometimes i also used ask.com. I used them because they are the search engines that i am the most familiar with. One of the things i dont like about google is that they show wikipedia and I dont fully trust wikipedia because other people can go in and change the information. What i like about the websites is that google has one of the biggest searches, and its familiar for me to use, same with ask.com.
After researching and finding other research engines i found that i really like dogpile and metacrawler. I like dogpile alot especially because they offer you information from google, yahoo, bing and ask, all this is one website, which i think cuts alot of time of your research. In metacrawler it offers you info from google, yahoo, MSN and ask.

RJA #3b: Narrowing Research Topic
By doing the Great Depression, I chose to focus more on the Stock Market Crash. There were many other routes i could have taken with the Great Depression, but i want to narrow it more to just the causes of the Stock Market Crash. There are many differnt opinions on this and i believe that i can find alot by just doing the Crash. People debate on the causes so thats what i am going to primarily focus my paper on.

RJA #3a: Exploring Research Topic–

The Stock Market Crash of 1929-
Due to the great economic boom, stocks were seen as extreamly safe. So many investors bought a lot of shares.
Stock market trading became America’s favorite pastime.
Some say the tumble began when the Federal Government began to raise interest rates in early 1929.
The Stock Market Crash is known to many people as the beginning of the Great Depression.
The Stock Market crashed over a period of 5 days. Typically the market traded around 4 million shares each trading day, but on Black Thurday they traded 12.9 million shares. This caused the stock market to run behind 90 min. At the end of the day the market had fallen 33 points or around 9%.

RJA #2b: Research Topic–
The Great Depression of the 1930's-
1) The Topic that i chose to research is the Great Depression of the 1930's. I chose this topic because last semester in my history class we discussed it but we never really got into details about it. I know that this is a contraversial subject, like about how it started and how it ended so i thought it would be very interesting.
2) What i know about the Great Depression so far is that one of the reasons this happened was because of the Stock Market Crash in 1929. The Stock Market lost about 40 billion dollars. Also 9,000 banks had to close down due to foreclosure. The gave too many people loans. The last thing i know about this topic is that because people were loosing their jobs they stopped buying goods which then went as a slippery slope and then the farmers started loosing money and they lost 1/3 of their farm lands.
3) What i would like to learn about the Great Depression is what other issues caused the whole down fall. There are many different opinions on how it started so i would like to research everybodys opinions and see how they differ. I would like to also find out why so many banks had to close and why they didnt just stop giving so much loans out. Also i want to get the history on why the huge Stock Market crashed. I want to look at all the myths about the Depression.

Research Assignment #1
Although my future plans are to go into dental hygiene, i also have interests mostly in science and political issues.
Like what exactly caused the great depression? And is the U.S going to fall back into another depression like we had in the 1930's. Last semester i was in an American history class and here are some things that i learned.
One of the most greatly talked about causes for the depression was the stock market crash if 1929. Stockbrokers lost about 40 billion dollars and america couldnt get out of the money issues. Also there were alot of bank failures althroughout the 1930's. 9,000 banks closed down because they were giving out too many loans to people who couldnt pay them back.
People were worrying about money so much that they stopped buying goods and that lowered the economy even more. People would stop buying as much food which destroyed the farmers, their farmed declined 60% and they lost 1/3 of their land.

Many people are saying that our economy now is making some of the same mistakes that the economy did in the 1930's. Banks are closing down and the stockmarket isnt doing as greatly as it used to. Historians are worried that we are going to get ourselves into another great depression, we need to learn from the mistakes of the great depression and not do the same thing.
