RJA #10a: Thesis Statement–

Question:
What are the causes of the 1929 stock market crash?

Claim:
Many tend to believe that the crash only happened because of the illegal acitivty and fraud in the market and that the stocks were too overpriced, this however is only the beginning of the reasons for the crash.

Reasons:
  • The Federal Reserve System allowed money to grow rapidly, creating malinvestments.
  • International Trade
  • The Smoot-Hawley Act
  • NRA(recovery act)
  • New Taxes

Thesis Statement:
Many people believe that the stock market crash of 1929 was caused by the stocks being over priced, very little margin relative to the value of the market and that there were massive frauds and illegal activity in the stocks. However, this is only the thin layer of what really caused the great crash of 1929.
In this essay i will examine the causes and reveal how this crash even happened.

  1. I like your thesis statement but the one thing I would change would be to mention a few of the reasons why you believe that the crash happened and less of what people believe. You can always mention the first part of your thesis in the body paragraphs or even towards the end of your paper.
